The same company that makes Socko Energy Drinks made Hogan Energy Drinks, and the two are quite similar. Both contain 160 mg of caffeine per can, but the label recommends splitting the can into two 8-ounce servings. If you follow the recommended portion size, these energy drinks contain less caffeine than the average morning cup of coffee, which usually contains between 95 and 140 mg but can have much more. Other commercial drinks that you might get from Starbucks, Dunkin’, and similar chains can also contain more caffeine. Starbucks, for instance, allows you to create any drink that you like, so you can make one with dangerously high amounts of caffeine.

Drink Size in Ounces Caffeine in Milligrams
Tea 6–8 45
Morning Coffee 6–8 95–140
Hogan Energy Drink 16 160
Socko Energy Drink 16 160
Monster Energy Drink 16 160
Starbucks Regular 16 320
Dunkin’ 20 300

How Much Caffeine Is Safe?

Most experts recommend keeping your caffeine intake below 400 mg per day. People who exceed that amount can experience health problems, like high blood pressure and an increased heart rate. People who do not regularly consume much caffeine can become nervous and jittery and may find it difficult to sleep. If you struggle to sleep at night, make sure you do not drink any caffeine less than 8 hours before bedtime.

Other Ingredients

Sugar

Hogan Energy Drinks didn’t have the extra ingredients that are found in many other energy drinks, like taurine and guarana, which was a good thing because there is not much evidence backing up the claims that they are beneficial. However, the Hogan Energy Drink did have a large amount of sugar at 28 grams per can. One gram is about ¼ teaspoon, so each can contain 7 teaspoons of sugar. A single serving would have had about 3 ½ teaspoons, which is more than what most people put into their morning coffee each day. Too much sugar can lead to several health problems, including obesity, diabetes, and tooth decay. However, it’s important to point out that many other common beverages have much more sugar than what was in Hogan Energy Drinks, including many drinks that are supposed to be healthy.

16-Ounce Drink Sugar in Grams
Hogan Energy Drink 28
Monster Energy Drink 38
Canada Dry Ginger Ale 44
McDonald’s Sweet Tea 36
Pepsi 52

Summary

Drinking the entire can of Hogan Energy Drink would have provided you with 160 mg of caffeine, which is more than the average morning coffee, so it could have been a great way to get your day started. The sugar level was a little high, so you might have wanted to keep it as a treat, but it was not as high as many sodas, and there was a sugar-free version. However, it looks like it has been discontinued in favor of the Socko drinks, so you can still find it, enjoy this beverage!
