Add in the health benefits, and you’ll be wondering why you’ve been bothering with any other type of milk.
We’ll show you how to make the soy chai latte of your dreams! All you need are a few simple ingredients, like soy milk, a great chai blend, and your favorite sweetener. This latte comes together in minutes and costs a whole lot less than the Starbucks version. Get ready for a tasty, creamy treat!
Simple Soy Chai Latte
Equipment
- 2 large coffee mugs
- Immersion blender (or milk steamer)
- Spoon
- Saucepan
- Stovetop
Ingredients
- 2 chai tea bags or loose leaf chai tea
- ½ cup water
- 1 ¼ cups soy milk to taste
- 1 ½ tablespoons honey or 2 tablespoons white sugar
- Cinnamon and cardamom optional
Instructions
- Make a strong cup of chai tea. Follow the instructions on your tea box, or steep the tea leaves in hot water for at least 7 minutes. Then remove the tea bag or filter out the loose tea.
- In a saucepan, combine the chai tea with soy milk. You can use a little more or less milk depending on how creamy you like your chai. Heat over medium-low, stirring regularly.
- Add your favorite sweetener and stir until it dissolves. We like to use agave, honey, or plain white sugar.
- Remove the pan from the heat. Use an immersion blender or milk steam wand to froth the chai latte.
- Pour your soy chai latte into two large coffee mugs, spooning the milk foam on top. Then sprinkle with cinnamon and cardamom for a beautiful treat!
Nutrition
Why use soy milk?
Soy milk is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, a healthy type of fat that is important for brain health. It’s also full of potassium, which supports your cardiovascular system and may help lower your blood pressure. But the main reason many people drink soy milk is that it’s lactose- and dairy-free, making it a good option for lactose-intolerant and vegan people.
How does soy milk taste in chai?
Soy milk is rich and smooth, with a mild flavor that makes it very adaptable. It has a texture very similar to regular milk and froths exceptionally well. When we tried it in a homemade chai latte, we were impressed! Soy milk is more neutral than almond or coconut milk, which means you get to taste more of those delectable chai spice flavors.
