The water comes from the Les Bouillens spa in Vergeze, France. The spa’s doctor felt the spring water was therapeutic and that others should get to experience it. A British man, Sir John Harmsworth bought the spa and closed it to patrons. He then began to bottle the water for sale to the public. Shortly after starting the company, Harmsworth sold it to Gustave Leven, and the company became French-owned. Instead, the water and bubbles are reintroduced during the bottling process.

In the 80s, Perrier launched sparkling waters with a twist. They hoped adding a bit of lime and flavor would bring more people to their sparkling waters. That is the only true change the company has had over the years. Now, Perrier has decided to cash in on the energy craze by offering energizing sparkling water that isn’t full of sugar and calories like the competition. While the caffeine content in each can is pretty high, the caffeine comes from natural sources such as green coffee beans and yerba mate.
